Freedom Film Distributors celebrates its 2nd Birthday

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Freedom Film Distributors logo

Two years ago this week, Freedom Film Distributors officially launched our effort to bring independently produced films that promote the values of Faith, Family, and Freedom to communities across the nation and the world through grassroots promotion and distribution efforts. It has been a challenging journey thus far, but we are thankful for the opportunity that God has given us to help families across the country get involved in promoting great movies in their local area.

FFD families at Family Economics Conference

We have independent distributors across the country that are raising awareness about independently produced films through networking, attended local and regional events as exhibitors, and through hosting movie nights. Many of our distributor families have found great fulfillment in working together as a family in a simple and straightforward family business, one that even young children can participate in and develop important life and business skills such as planning, accounting, marketing, sales, and customer service. Most distributors have joined us because they love the films that we promote – many have had life-changing influence on them – and their passion for sharing the messages of the films motivates them in their local promotion and distribution efforts. If you love family films and want to promote them in the context of a family business, please consider joining us as a distributor.

National Movie Night - Join us and host a movie night in your community!

Our National Movie Night project started last fall by premiering several new films nationwide, including Agenda: Griding America Down, which won the $101,000 Best of Festival Grand Prize at the 2010 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, and Divided, a controversial film that has had a huge impact on they way that Christians consider children and youth ministry. Since then, National Movie Night has held nationwide premieres of Resisting the Green Dragon, Jimmy Valiant: Scions of Danger, An Inconvenient Tax, Dale Evans: Beyond the Happy Trails, Gather the Family, Crying Wolf, and a special pre-release screening of Rescued: The Heart of Adoption and Caring for Orphans. There are several new films being released soon that we will be adding to the 2012 schedule, so if you'd like to host a movie night to expose friends, family, and neighbors to these great films, please Sign Up to Host a Movie Night today!

The Films

Here are some of the significant films that Freedom Film Distributors has worked to promote these past two years.

A More Perfect Union DVD

A More Perfect Union is the only feature-length film that portrays the Constitutional Convention of 1787 and is an important educational tool needed to provide the understanding needed to restore the American Republic.

AGENDA

AGENDA: Grinding America Down is a groundbreaking documentary about the Marxist agenda to systematically take control of the major institutions of American power.

DIVIDED

Divided has become a very controversial film that discusses the modern ministry model for children and youth ministry, how that model has failed, and what the Bible says about the issue.

Indoctrination movie

IndoctriNation: Public Schools and the Decline of Christianity in America is a breakthrough documentary that reviews the history of government education in American – its founders and their worldview, the development of the public education institution, and the effects it has had on our culture and society.

Gather the Family is the first film that portrays families practicing Family Worship and provides an essential tool for fathers that want to lead their families spiritually.

The Homestead Blessings series is a one-of-a-kind collection of practical how-to videos on the lost arts of homemaking and homesteading.  From gardening, canning and cooking to candlemaking, sewing, and soapmaking, this series has something for every current or aspiring homemaker.

Families Connecting at the Family Economics Conference

Monday, March 14th, 2011

This weekend saw hundreds of families join together in Raleigh, North Carolina to celebrate and learn about productive family economics at the 2011 Family Economics Conference.  Sponsored by Generations with Vision, the Family Economics Conference covered topics such as Vision for the Family Economy, How to Train Your Sons to be Financially Prepared for Marriage, The College Paradigm and the Family Economy, and Mentoring, Networking, and Contractualization, among others.

FFD families at Family Economics Conference

It was a special event that saw the rendezvous of several Freedom Film Distributor families. Alan Hillman's family represented Freedom Film Distributors in the vendor hall, Randy Winton and his sons had a booth for their new home business promotion venture Christian Home Industry, and I had a booth for a new project I've just launched called True Food Solutions, a community content and networking site focused on finding solutions to the challenges of finding healthy and affordable food in an era of rising food prices. It was a blessing to fellowship together with others from our Freedom Film Distributor family.

The Wintons were invited to perform their wonderful bluegrass gospel music for the large crowd, and provided wonderful uplifting entertainment during lunchtime and the evening keynote sessions.

Practical business ideas panel discussion

The Family Economics Conference addressed many issues that are foundational to the existence and vision of Freedom Film Distributors. It was a blessing to meet with and learn alongside many other families that are seeking to be productive in and through their family life.  We encourage you to purchase the Family Economics Conference audio to benefit from the wonderful widom shared by the speakers this past weekend.  Visit the Freedom Film Distributors website if you are interested in pursuing a simple family business opportunity you can do with your children.

New Year, New Life, New Things to Come

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Happy New Year! (only a couple of weeks late) While still not sure if I've finally emerged from the holiday season productivity black hole, things seem to be picking up and we're very excited about what's ahead for Freedom Film Distributors.

New Life for the New Year - Adeline Virginia

The close of the Year of our Lord 2010 was an exciting one for my family, as we welcomed our 5th child into our arms. Adeline Virginia was born New Year's Eve, so it was at once the most wonderful and most quiet New Year's celebration we've ever had.

Looking ahead to the year 2011, there are lots of exciting new things in store.  Here's a brief list:

  1. New promotion opportunities for fans of family movies and Christian films, including a fundraiser program that's in development, and an affiliate marketing program to allow all you bloggers and likeminded organization to help promote great films.
  2. Continued growth for the National Movie Night project, including additional screenings of hit films AGENDA: Grinding America Down and DIVIDED, plus new films in production to be released soon.
  3. New family films and Christian movie releases coming, including the powerful Indoctrintion documentary by Colin Gunn and his team, and the forthcoming family adventure movie Ace Wonder by John Robert Moore and the team at HeuMoore Productions.
  4. Events galore – conferences, homeschool conventions, festivals, county fairs, and more will see our distributors interacting with their communities to promote and share our great catalog of family films and Christian movies across the country.

If you have any ideas on how we can better engage the culture with God-honoring media, or questions about becoming a distributor or joining us as a Movie Night Host, please let us know.

Sharing family friendly films at the fall festival

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Even though it was near 80 degrees, it was undeniable: autumn had arrived.  This is fortunate, because Saturday was the 28th annual Craig County Fall Festival in New Castle, Virginia.  It's always nice to have the aroma of fall in the air when the Fall Festival arrives.

Craig County Fall Festival, New Castle VA

My family and I enjoyed a glorious warm fall day on Saturday at the festival. We were one of many vendors that set up a booth and interacted with our neighbors and community in this quaint little town tucked in a valley in the Virginia Highlands. We had the opportunity to meet some of our neighbors in the area, which is one of the most important reasons that we come to these events, and even got to meet some wonderful people that were visiting from out of state, which is great, because they can spread the word about what Freedom Film Distributors is doing in a completely different area.

The festival had live music, including performances by a popular (and very good) local bluegrass band, and there was funnel cakes and other tasty treats to be had as well. Local vendors sold all sorts of great items, from locally farmed produce to homemade health and beauty products.  Since the election is coming up, the candidates all had booths and were meeting and talking to the voters.  It was a wonderful piece of Americana that many do not get to experience much anymore.  We are fortunate to live in a rural community where this is the norm and life has been like this for decades.

We're looking forward to our Distributors and Movie Night Hosts contributing to this kind of community interaction in growing frequency in the future.  Sign up to get our email news and updates, and Like our Facebook page to keep in touch with us.

Special Report from the Providential History Festival

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

We're happy to share this report from our distributors in Omaha, Nebraska, Brian and Kit Fox, who this past weekend attended the Providential History Festival.

The Fox Family was a Bronze Sponsor of the Providential History Festival this past weekend at the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland, NE. The Festival showcased speeches, dramas, table displays, short stories, and essays all focused on the providence of God throughout history. It is an amazing event that we encourage you all to attend next year!

At the Festival we were able to display and sell our great line of Freedom Films. We had the opportunity to meet many new people and also let our friends see what we have been up to these past several months. People we met were excited about the vision of Freedom Film Distributors and look forward to seeing more of us in the future.   We recently booked a venue for our first Family Movie Night and we were able to get the word out to a large audience.

It was wonderful to have our whole family working together, from the planning stages to the final event. One of our most important goals for our involvement with Freedom Film Distributors is to use it as an entrepreneurship training tool for our five sons. It is exciting to see them use their unique giftings in our venture. It's also great to be able to stretch them each a bit so we can all grow in our abilities.

A couple of special opportunities arose from this event. First, we met a local radio personality who is willing to do a short interview of our family to let the community know about Freedom Film Distributors! Also, we had the privilege of announcing the awards in the drama category, giving us stage time to talk about our vision and the ability to present the winner with a gift from the Freedom Film Distributors catalog.

While we have done several Freedom Film events this summer, this was our largest local event so far. It was great to share our family and distributor vision with those in our community. We look forward to the opportunity to serve in new and exciting ways, starting with our first movie night next month.

Meanwhile, up in Connecticut

Friday, June 11th, 2010

While Steve and family are meeting homeschooling families in Virginia at the HEAV Convention, Alan Hillman and family are on the road again, this time in Connecticut at the CT TEACH homeschooling convention.  Now at their 5th homeschooling convention of the year, our road warrior distributor family is excited about this last convention before they get a chance to rest for the summer.

As always, the Hillmans set up a beautiful display of their DVDs from the Freedom Film Distributor catalog and other products that they sell through their Honeysuckle Farms family business.

The Wintons at the Creation Museum

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

The Wintons, one of our distributor families from northern California, are on a cross-country tour this summer and playing concerts to the delight of many across the country.  They recently had the pleasure of visiting the Creation Museum in Kentucky, and were invited to meet and play for the museum staff, including Answers in Genesis founder Ken Ham.

You can read more about their visit and see more pictures on Ken Ham’s blog.  Stay tuned for more news from The Wintons as they continue their tour across America.

The Hillmans on the Road Again – All the way in PA

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Alan and Shelley Hillman have been busy lately.  Very busy.  After having a productive and busy weekend at the Massachusetts HOPE convention two weeks ago, they traveled last week all the way from Maine to Pennsylvania to attend the CHAP homeschool convention, one of the largest in the nation.  (It seems we don't yet have any distributors in PA willing to go sell lots of our products to eager buyers at a place like CHAP – if you or someone you know in PA might be interested in Joining Us, read more about Becoming a Distributor.)  They had a special treat while there, meeting up with our Director of Distributor Support, Scott Eash, pictured below.

Scott Eash visiting Hillmans booth at CHAP

The Hillmans don't do anything small, it seems.  They have a strong desire to establish an atmosphere, even as a vendor at a large convention, where people can relax and enjoy fellowship while browsing their Honeysuckle Farms product library (and it literally looks like a library).  They have had many wonderful opportunities to talk to and even minister to people by related the stories from the films in the Freedom Film Distributors catalog, as well as from their own journey of faith.

Of course, to get such a wonderful vendor display set up requires a hefty logistics effort, which Alan deftly handled with his two red monsters.

HOPE in Massachusetts with the Hillmans

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

This past weekend was the MassHOPE homeschooling convention in Massachusetts, and was attended by our distributor in Maine, Alan Hillman and family.  They had a wonderful time of working together as a family and talking with convention attendees about the films from the Freedom Film Distributors catalog.

After a successful convention weekend, the Hillmans are excited about upcoming events they have planned to promote the FFD catalog of films in their area.  We look forward to more great news from the Hillman family and their home-based Honeysuckle Farms business.

Youth and Energy in Wisconsin

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Josh Ferrell

We’re excited to welcome Josh Ferrell as the first young man to sign up with Freedom Film Distributors.  He brings with him an incredible amount of energy and enthusiasm (hint: those are important if you’re in business).  Residing in Wisconsin, Josh is excited to be promoting the Freedom Film catalog across his territory.  After his mom discovered Freedom Film Distributors on Facebook, Josh became very excited about the opportunity to launch into entrepreneurship and develop business skills.   His parents are fully supporting Josh’s new venture and are excited to see their son learn as an entrepreneur.

Ferrell family at liberty bell

Josh  is loaded with ideas for bringing God-honoring films to Wisconsin, including exhibiting at homeschool conventions this spring.  Churches, Christian bookstores, county fairs, city events, and local tourist shops are all on Josh’s radar!

After being encouraged and influenced by Franklin Springs films, Josh knew that he had to take part in bringing these films to his community.  He says, “My favorite film was Pull up A Chair with Nathan Clark George. What really spoke to me was, even amongst business with music and travel, he took time being the spiritual leader of his family. My dad had a deep conviction for taking time with my family reading God’s Word, and growing together as a family in holiness rather than letting someone else do his job. It was so neat because just after we started doing our family worship together, we watched this film and Nathan Clark George was using the same book we were using at the time… Nathan George’s family really shows that he is bringing them up in the Lord, and seeing the love His kids have for the Lord was a real joy. I also really enjoy his music, and having this movie to know what his life is like when he’s not recording really made me love him and his music more.”

We’re glad to have Josh on the Freedom Film Distributors team, excited to watch him grow, and eager to see what he will accomplish in his new venture!
